The Chunk Chronicles: Sunday Funday to Cloud Nine

Do you remember when I gathered up all my scrap yarn, ends of skeins and old forgotten balls and tied them all together and made a gigantic version of Iron Lamb Sunday Funday Cardigan? It was epic and all sorts of amazing but my god was it heavy and not practical at all! I thought I would wear it all the time (I mean look at it, who wouldn't want there own Technicolour Yarn Coat?!) but I think I wore it once, got back ache, then it sat in the corner of the room for months. I couldn't let it go to waste though, I loved it too much. I had already purchased the Cloud Nine Jumper so I decided to make on of those instead and It turned out amazing! Here's how I did it, so you can make your own!

First off, go buy the Cloud Nine Jumper and while your at it, maybe all buy all Claudine's other patterns too. This isn't sponsored or anything, I just really love her patterns, like a lot! Next your going to want to take aaaaall your yarn scraps, ends, random skeins and yarn you just want to use up and your going to tie them all together make a Super Scrap Skein! Don't worry if their all different sizes, lengths and colours, thats whats going to make it super fun and unique. You want to identify your biggest yarn weight and the hook that goes with it (mine was super bulky and a 9mm hook) and you want to make everything else that size. I had quite a bit of Worsted yarn, so I just doubled up and mixed the colours up a bit, it worked great and those bits are some of my favourite to look at. I ended up making multiple bundles because I wanted it to be easier to work with, but you could do one huge ball if you wanted to (I definitely recommend using something to wind the yarn onto, it was so much easier to manage)

Because were working with much bigger yarn and hook than the pattern is made for I'll give you a little look into how I sized mine. I had already made the mistake of making the Cardigan way too big so I knew to size down a bunch of sizes. Im 5ft2 and around a UK size 14 and I used the XS size for the jumper. If you are unsure, I would suggest making the yoke and then seeing if it fits over your head and shoulders, that should give you a pretty good idea if you need to go up or down. And then you just follow the pattern. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! The only edits I made were: I didn't do the full length for the body or sleeves, I just stopped when It was as long as I wanted them. After the arms were long enough I did a whole row of decreases so they went in more. And for all the ribbing I did the standard ribbing instead of the post ribbing (this is just a person preference, I find the post ribbing a little too chunky for my liking on clothes.)

And there you have it! A super scrappy Cloud Nine Jumper that is so comfy and so warm you'll never want to take it off! I still have a bunch of my scrap balls left over and even more to add after going through my yarn stash when we moved, so I think Im going to make the Sunday Funday Cardigan but in the smaller size. Im feeling the need to bust through my stash now were into the new year...new year new yearn, right?
