Yesterday afternoon I took some time off for some social distance hangs with Yo and our friend. I've been working 6 day weeks on top of all the crochet I've been doing in the evening and my day off, so some nature time was very much needed. We hopped in the car after work and headed to Deep Cove. I've been wanting to go for ages and turns out yesterday was the perfect time to go. It was drizzly, grey and on the sky was on the verge of turning on the water works, perfect conditions to avoid people.
We couldn't go to deep cove with out trying Honeys Donuts. I've had them before when some one bought them into work, but everything tastes better at the source, right? They were very indulgent! What I thought was oil turned out to be honey (I know, I should of guessed with the name!) and they are soaked in it! Crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle. So good. Definitely get some if you can!
We spent a little time wandering the beach, flipping rocks to find crabs, looking for fun things to add to our beach combing treasures and watching all the cute doggos out on the beach. We didn't stay too long because more people started showing up so we decided to go to Rice Lake, another place I hadn't been before.
My all time favourite show ever is Stargate, which was filmed in Vancouver and BC. Yo hadn't seen it before, just the odd episode here and there, although he loved the original movie, so we've been watching it from the beginning over the last few weeks. I know a Stargate filming location when I see it and Rice Lake has to be one of them, or I'll eat a Zatnikatel! It's such a beautiful, wild place (with bear warnings everywhere!). I love BC forests so much, they're so green and alien, it really is like being on another planet.
Rice Lake was a beautiful, easy trail, we didn't do the full loop because the sky opened when we arrived, so we just did the short trail to the little fishing area that they have there. Unfortunately there was a large group of people there (we keep our distance) and they were right where we wanted to be. It would of been such a great spot to just sit and watch the mist rise from the lake as the rain fell. All in all it was a great afternoon and exactly what I needed to remind myself that life isn't all about work and the drama that goes on in those four walls. I definitely need more days like this.
What are your favourite things to do when you just need to escape for a few hours? Any favourite spots for relaxing?
